An elliptical machine helps you lose weight in a couple ways .First it increases your resting metabolic rate so that you have an overall increase in calories burned per day.

Secondly, an elliptical machine burns about 750 calories per hour.

Losing weight is all about burning calories. It is not about eating less.

To lose 1 pound you have to burn about 3500 calories. So that means that if you want to lose 1 pound in a weeks time without changing your eating habits of all you have to spend about five hours on an elliptical machine.

If you set up an exercise program that puts you on an elliptical machine four days a week for one hour per day you will lose about 1 pound per week.

You will actually lose more weight than that because you will increase your resting metabolic rate sell you will burn more calories during any other activity 24 hours a day. That means you will also burn more calories what you will resting and sleeping.

If you want to lose 1 pound per week by dieting, all that you have to do is to reduce the number of calories that you eat every day by 500.

If you want to combine a slight reduction in your eating with less work on the elliptical machine just make the balance between the number of calories you reduce over seven days and the number of calories that you burn by a certain amount of time on the elliptical machine over four days.

When I was actively losing weight, I have found that by reducing my calorie intake to about 1400 calories per day, working out on an elliptical trainer machine 15 minutes per day, and walking one hour per day resulted in a weight loss of about 2 1/2 pounds per week for me. That means I lost 10 pounds per month. That was a lot of weight to lose in a short time and I was very happy to do it.
